IRID Director

Statement from Director

Welcome to the IRID website!

This year we mark the fifth year since the establishment of the Institute. The Institute was founded as a modest contribution of CUEA towards enhancing Africa‚Äôs capacity for regional integration. The University wished to start a specialist inter-disciplinary graduate institute for research and training in regional integration, where academics, researchers and practitioners would meet to provide conceptual, policy and practical instruction on regional integration and global governance. Since its establishment, the Institute has seen several developments, both in structure and in its objectives.  IRID has over that time recorded some significant achievements: It has convened and hosted Conferences on Regional Integration, and offered induction programs to members of the East African Legislative Assembly.

The Institute has also managed to obtain accreditation from the Law Society of Kenya to offer courses on the Law of the East African Community, and indeed has offered a series of course on the Law of the East African Community. In partnership with the EAC secretariat, the Institute facilitated and hosted the third EAC University Students Debate in September 2014. The Institute aims at actively engaging and collaborating with the organs of the EAC and with other regional organizations and academic institutions.
