CUEA represented in the 2015 Japanese Cultural Festival

The Japan Information and Culture Center held the J-Pop festival on 2nd and 3rd October 2015 at the embassy of Japan in Nairobi. The festival was a mesh between the Anime (Animations) Festival and a J-pop Nodojiman and cosplay competition. H.E. Mr. Tatsushi Terada, Ambassador of Japan to Kenya and Mr. Nicholas ole Moipei, 2015 JAMAFEST Director officially opened the competition.

Japanese anime (animations) were shown on the 2nd and the 3rd October. The afternoon of 3rd October was set aside for the J-Pop Nodojiman and Cosplay Competition. Cosplay is short for costume play and involves dressing and acting as popular characters from television and film whereas Nodojiman is a Japanese Singing Competition.

Do you remember the 2002 World Cup hosted in Japan and South Korea? Memories of it were re-enacted in CUEA’s performance of the song shima-uta, a Japanese song, which was, sang during the 2002 World Cup series. Nahashon Nzioka (student) and Monica Kahumburu (lecturer) performed the song during the J-Pop singing competition. Nahashon and Ms. Kahumburu expressed their gratitude to Fr. Ignatius Matsungu, pianist and director of the CUEA choir, who graciously offered time to help out during practice.

The J-Pop Festival closed with the announcement of the winners of both the Cosplay Competition and the J-Pop Nodojiman.
