Pentecost 2015: Why does it matter to CUEA Family?

Dear CUEA Family, beloved Citizens of CUEA, the Pentecost we celebrated this past Sunday is a great event to those who believe because the Descent of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God is a blessing that no one can afford to ignore or neglect. As a free gift from God, the Holy Spirit comes to shape and transform our lives, to strengthen our vocations, to give more meaning to our labour, to instruct our Family in the way of unity and harmony, peace and righteousness. This Pentecost matters to us on two accounts.

First, in the first reading of the day, the Acts of the Apostles proclaim:

“Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, “Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his native language?

The Holy Spirit makes us understand that “differences make sense” when they are well understood. Different languages or different styles or different categories or different occupations or different nationalities or different positions do not divide when they are solely for God and his people. CUEA Family would be more united if it considers differences as God’s gifts for God’s glory and service to humanity. So we join the Psalmist by saying:

“Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth”.

In the second reading, we were reminded that

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.”

Secondly, this unity that the world cannot give, for it comes from the Spirit of God, instills peace in our hearts, brings peace to our Family and maintains peace in our relationships with God and with one another. The Gospel according to Saint John says:

“Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you.”

To all people of goodwill, the Lord comes with peace; here is a cause of rejoicing for we have the privilege to receive God’s peace that the world cannot give. However, Jesus added: “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” CUEA Family is, therefore, sent to embrace peace, live in peace, work in peace and preach peace. Let us remember that this requires acts more than words; we shall, then become busy and productive. May God's blessings be with you in everything you do.
