Community Service: University puts a smile on Gichiche Primary School Children

The University took part in a community service activity on February 28, 2015 in Embu County.

The exercise spearheaded by the Community Service department at CUEA also involved Sadolin Paints which donated paint for the school’s walls.

Students, staff members, and officials from Sadolin paints took place in the activity at Gichiche Primary School, Embu.

The CUEA family took part in a host of activities including; tree planting session, painting of the classrooms, career guidance and offering donations for the less fortunate students and parents.

The University’s infirmary staff offered free guidance and counseling to the elderly and the sick people upon a basic health check-up.

Speaking during the service, Sr. Lucy the deputy dean of students applauded the exercise and appealed for future partnerships.

On the other hand, Mr. Peter Mulei, sales executive, Sadolin Paints indicated that such partnerships will improve in the future. He added, “Colour makes people happy and improves their lives”.

The head teacher, Mr. Musa Munyi thanked the CUEA family and the Sadolin Paints company for their great assistance to the school and the students. He stressed that the school will now have a complete new look and pupils will have a better learning environment.

Gichiche Primary School was started in 1940s by one of the local African independent churches.

The week of March 2-7 is being marked as Community Service Week here at the University. Several activities have been set for this; a visit to Cottolengo Children’s home (Frid feb 27), Education day (Wed March 4), spirituality day (Thursday March 5), Health day – blood donation and Security issues (Friday March 6) and CUEA Community day – empowerment talks (Sat March 7).
