University Lecturer Authors Chapter in International Book

CollinsonFoodA CUEA Lecturer has authored a chapter in an international book. Sr. Dr. Lucy Kimaro, is a contributor to the book Food in Zones of Conflict; Cross-Disciplinary Perspectives.

The chapter she authored reads: Engaging Religion in the Quest for Sustainable Food Security in Zones of Conflict in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is the fifth chapter in the book.

The book was published in September 2014 by Berghahn, Oxford. It is the winner of the 2014 Gourmand World Book Awards in the UK, and qualifies for Best in the World Awards to be held in Yantai China on 8-11 June, 2015.

The book looks at the availability of food in areas that have been affected by conflict, a common feature of many regions around the world.

A citation on the book says, “The availability of food is an especially significant issue in zones of conflict because conflict nearly always impinges on the production and the distribution of food, and causes increased competition for food, land and resources”.

It lays out the aspect that protagonists in a conflict try to control the production of and access to food as a weapon. It also looks at the logistics of supply of food to military personnel operating in conflict zones.

These are among the themes in the book which is a collection and covers different geographic areas.

It is meant for scholars in disciplines like, anthropology, nutrition, political science, development studies and international relations, as well as practitioners working in the private and public sectors especially those concerned with food-related issues in the field.

It is edited by Paul Collinson and Helen Macbeth both of them researchers at Oxford Brookes University in the UK.

The book is 250 pages and costs about 95 US dollars, a soft copy can also be ordered from the publisher.
