Archbishop-elect Mombasa launches “Year of the Priest” book

Archbishop-elect Mombasa, Most Rev. Martin Kivuva presided over the launch of the book on “Year of the Priest, faithfulness of Christ, faithfulness of the Priest, 150 years of St. John Marie Vianney” edited by Rev. Prof. Lukwata.

Most Rev. Martin Kivuva thanked the CUEA Faculty of Theology for the reflection on the beauty and demands of ‘the Priestly vocation today’, noting that, “writing about priesthood is a noble task”.

“As a Bishop, I appreciate the generosity with which our priests are doing their apostolic work in the Church today, sometimes in very difficult circumstances”, he added.

The book documents proceedings of the 12th Inter displinary Theological session of the Faculty of Theology held in 2010. It has articles from scholars and pastoral agents from East, West and Southern Africa and is published by the CUEA press.

The Archbishop-elect earlier concelebrated mass with Most Rev. Zacchaeus Okoth (Kisumu Archdiocese) where they launched the book “Paths of Development”. Part of the research for this book was done in Machakos Diocese in which Kivuva served before as Bishop.

Rev. Kivuva noted that the self-help project (Caritas group) featured in the research has won position one at the annual lower eastern agricultural show in Machakos for three years in a row.

The self-help groups have improved the lot of women in Machakos diocese and according to the Caritas programme officer Machakos, Mrs Bernadette Kilonzo, from contributions as low as 20 shs, these groups have projects running to tens of millions.

He invited those present to his official installation as the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa on February 21, 2015 at Tononoka stadium starting from 10 am.
