CUEA Chancellor Appointed Cardinal

Chancellorphoto2The CUEA Chancellor, Most Rev Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel, C.M., Archbishop of Addis Ababa; Ethiopia has been appointed Cardinal.

Information posted online by www.news.va, quoting Vatican radio stated that on Sunday 04 January 2015 at the Angelus, Pope Francis announced the names of fifteen Archbishops and Bishops whom he will raise to the dignity of the Cardinalate on February 14, 2015; among them is Most Rev Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel, C.M., Archbishop of Addis Ababa; Ethiopia and AMECEA Chairman.

Most Rev. Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel became the CUEA Chancellor upon his election as the Chairman of Association of Member Episcopal Conferences of Eastern Africa (AMECEA) in July 2014. He presided over the 30th University Graduation (and his first) on October 3, 2014.

The CUEA family congratulates Most Rev. Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel on his elevation to be a prince of the church.
