ACWECA Social Media Workshop

acwecaThe Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa (ACWECA) held a Social Media Workshop from 31st March 2014 to 4th April 2014 at the IBM Research Lab Africa. The workshop was a partnership between The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), IBM Research Lab Africa and Avant Communications.

In his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Msgr. Dr. Pius Rutechura remarked that the workshop will empower ACWECA with the necessary skills and communication tools so that they are better prepared to respond to society’s needs using technology. “Let us learn and make the best use of this programme,” said the Vice Chancellor.

ACWECA Secretary General, Sr. Catherine Okari, was optimistic about the workshop which is in line with ACWECA’s strategic plan. “We resolve that we are going to empower each other, create greater bonds amongst ourselves and grow is solidarity,” said Sr. Catherine.

Topics of discussion at the workshop included: introduction to social media platforms, content development, blogging, microblogging, video sharing, photo sharing, website development using wordpress, monitoring and evaluation-analytics using Google alerts and applications including Google apps Search Engine Optimization (SEO) RSS Feeds.

ACWECA also invited Mr. Cyril Papa, Ag. Corporate Communications Manager, CUEA, to give a lecture on Marketing at Donum Dei, Karen on 7th April 2014.
