Tchineesehe Annual Japanese Speech Contest was held at the Embassy of Japan in Nairobi, on 22nd March 2014. This year, The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) was represented by Ms. Cynthia Murimi, who made an excellent speech, in Japanese, entitled “the meaning of education”. There were fourteen contestants from various universities, such as Daystar University, Kenyatta University (KU), Strathmore University, Kenya Utalii College, and United States International University (USIU).

Speaking at the event, the chief guest of honour Mr. Mikio Mori, Deputy Ambassador, Embassy of Japan, encouraged students in their endeavor to learn Japanese. He affirmed that learning a foreign language improves cultural understanding. In the current global village, international languages have become a bear necessity and at CUEA, the Department of English initiated certificate courses for English, French, German, Italian, and Japanese languages.
