CUEA Library Wins The Maktaba Award Of The Year “2013”

maktabaawardCatholic University of Eastern Africa Library recently won two prestigious “Maktaba Awards 2013” namely: The Best Academic Library and the Best Overall Library in Kenya. The Award ceremony was held at National Museums of Kenya on Thursday, 26th September, 2013. This is in recognition of its outstanding quality of information services to researchers and students, integration of modern technologies in provision on information services,

promotion of local content, community service, professionalism, creativity and innovation.

The Awards are organized annually by the Kenya Library Association, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institute Kenya, The Jomo Kenyatta Foundation and Radio Africa Group Ltd. CUEA staff led by the University Librarian Prof. Joseph M. Kavulya received a cash award of Ksh. 300,000, a Samsung Galaxy Tab III among other prizes. The guests at the function included the Principal Secretary for Culture, Sports and The Arts Mr. Patrick Omutia and Mr. Mugo Kibati,   the Director-General of Vision 2030 who was the guest of honour.

Speaking at the event Mr. Kibati, remarked that librarians play a major role in realizing the knowledge economy and must be innovative in promoting a reading culture among Kenyans. “It doesn’t matter what you will be, whatever it is your going to end up being, read and read.” He urged the youth to develop a reading culture and emphasized that vision 2030 will not happen by itself. “It’s the people of Kenya who will implement it.” Said Mr. Kibati.
